Dr Elochukwu Agudosi is a UKRI/ Marie Skłodowska-Curie Advanced Fellow at the School of Engineering, University of Â鶹´«Ã½ upon Tyne, England. Elochukwu is a chemical engineer and holds a PhD in Chemical Engineering (nanotechnology) from the Malaysia-Japan International Institute of Technology, University of Technology Malaysia, and an MEng in Environmental Engineering from Universiti Putra Malaysia.
His current research focuses on the design and synthesis of advanced nanostructures from biomass for sustainable energy storage applications (supercapacitors, batteries). This work This work is grounded in a “waste-to-wealth” philosophy, converting renewable biomass and waste resources into sustainable energy storage materials (biorefinery strategy) and thus contributes to circular economy strategies and green energy solutions.
In 2023, he was awarded a FONDECYT postdoctoral fellowship (ANID, Chile), where he developed hybrid electrode materials by combining metal phosphates and carbon-based materials to enhance the energy density of supercapatteries, achieving notable performance improvements. Earlier, in 2019, he received an Erasmus+ international mobility grant with which he interned at the Catalan Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ICN2), Barcelona.
During his PhD, he earned multiple international awards and focused on graphene-based nanocomposites for energy conversion and storage, including the development of a working supercapattery prototype. Elochukwu has relevant industry experience, having worked with Dextron Engineering (Nig) Limited (a subsidiary of Dextron Group, UK), culminating in his registration as a professional engineer with the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (reg. no: 35709), as well as a corporate member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (reg.no: 37936).
His research spans advanced materials for energy storage and conversion, catalysis, biomass valorisation, and water treatment, with expertise in hybrid nanostructures and nanocomposites. He has published widely in leading journals, contributed book chapters, presented at international conferences, and serves as a reviewer for top-tier journals in electrochemistry.
