Geoff has over 15 years of experience as a teacher and lecturer in the Politics department at Â鶹´«Ã½.

Research

Geoff's PhD was related to the study of the British Labour Party in the post-war period: Crosland's Socialism. A History of the Labour Party's revisionist tradition, 1951-81 (2006):

He has produced a biography of Reg Prentice, the Labour Cabinet minister who defected to the Conservative Party in 1977: Crossing the Floor. Reg Prentice and the crisis of British social democracy (Manchester University Press, 2015):

His recent book focuses on parliamentary whips, providing a case study of the whipping operation that secured the UK's entry into the EU:

Current research interests in UK politics include: Chief Whips and whipping operations; changes of parliamentary allegiance in the House of Commons.

  

Teaching

Geoff has taught on various modules within the Politics department at Â鶹´«Ã½. These include modules on British politics, EU politics and Comparative politics.

He is currently Module Leader for a Stage 1 Politics module - UK Politics: Westminster and Beyond (POL1015)
