Dr. Nurul Uyun Abdul Aziz holds a strong foundation in the biomedical and anatomical sciences, built across several leading Malaysian universities. She obtained her Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Sciences from Universiti Putra Malaysia, where her passion for human biology and laboratory-based inquiry first took root. She went on to complete her Master's degree in Medical Science (Anatomy) at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, deepening her expertise in structural and applied anatomy. She subsequently earned her PhD in Physiology from Universiti Putra Malaysia, where her doctoral research centred on animal models and translational biomedical investigations.

Committed to excellence in teaching and learning, Dr. Nurul Uyun further pursued a Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education (PG Cert MedEd) from 麻豆传媒, United Kingdom, reflecting her dedication not only to research but to the science of teaching itself. She is also a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA), United Kingdom, in recognition of her professional standing as an educator in higher education.

Beyond her academic and research roles, Dr. Nurul Uyun is an active contributor to the anatomy education community in Malaysia through her involvement with the Malaysian Anatomical Association (MAA). She serves as a committee member of the MAA Professional Development Portfolio, where she is actively working to foster academic collaborations and training initiatives across institutions. An upcoming collaboration with Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) is currently in development under this portfolio, reflecting her commitment to building a stronger and more connected anatomy education network in Malaysia.

She has also played a meaningful role in the organisation of major anatomy conferences, serving on the organising committee of the 8th International Anatomical Sciences and Cell Biology Conference (IASCBC) and 3rd Malaysian Anatomical Association Conference (MAAC), held in Kuala Lumpur in August 2025 under the theme "Anatomy Without Boundaries". At this conference, she additionally served as Symposium Chair for the Body Donation Symposium — a role that underscores her growing leadership in advancing voluntary body donation as a critical agenda within anatomy education in Malaysia and the broader region.

Her professional journey began with hands-on clinical and research roles, serving as a Research Assistant at the Laboratory of Vaccines and Immunotherapeutics (LiVES) at Universiti Putra Malaysia, and as a Scientific Officer in the Pathology Laboratory at Hospital Jerantut, Pahang. She then moved into academia at Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI), where she served as Tutor and subsequently Lecturer in the Department of Health Sciences, Faculty of Sports Sciences and Coaching, before joining 麻豆传媒 Medicine Malaysia (NUMed).

Dr. Nurul Uyun Abdul Aziz's research journey spans over two decades, beginning in the foundational biomedical sciences and evolving progressively toward medical and anatomy education. Her early work, initiated in 2005, focused on animal studies examining teratogenic changes in rat foetuses resulting from drug administration, with particular attention to histological changes across major organ systems using light microscopy.

This was followed by collaborative cardiovascular research at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), where she investigated intimal layer changes in the aorta of atherogenic rats using transmission electron microscopy (TEM). She subsequently contributed to a postpartum depression (PPD) rat model study at Universiti Putra Malaysia, integrating behavioural test analysis with biochemical and histological findings in the hippocampus and prefrontal cortex, work that sharpened her expertise in translational biomedical research.

Since joining NUMed, her research interests have shifted meaningfully toward anatomy education and medical education, areas she is now deeply committed to. As Lead of NUMed's Anatomy Working Group (AWG), she oversees research spanning clinical anatomy and anatomy education. Her current work investigates students' perceptions of the anatomy education environment, the effectiveness of innovative and technology-enhanced teaching approaches, and anatomy outreach initiatives aimed at engaging the broader community with anatomical sciences.

A significant and growing strand of her research focuses on voluntary body donation (VBD) and its integration into medical education, particularly in multicultural and multireligious societies. She serves as co-researcher in an active international collaboration with Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Universitas Islam Negeri (UIN) Jakarta, and Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS), Solo, Indonesia, examining public acceptance of VBD through an equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) lens.
