Davina McCall made an Honorary Doctor of Civil Law Published on: 18 July 2024 The household name, who has presented some of Britain's most popular television programmes, was honoured for the work she has done over the years to shine a spotlight on women’s health. Better support By sharing her personal experience of the menopause in her documentaries, Davina has helped break down the stigma surrounding it and used her platform to campaign for better support for women. Her book Menopausing was named Book of the Year at the British Book Awards in 2023. Davina is not the only person in her family to receive a degree from Â鶹´«Ã½ during this summer’s congregations - her daughter graduated earlier this week. “It really has been a great honour to get this degree,” said Davina. “I feel a bit of a fraud, having seen how much work my daughter has put into her four year degree and I swan in and get one. “But I am particularly chuffed that it is given to me for my work around women’s health. I will continue to raise awareness and campaign for education and more research for as long as I am breathing. I have rather fallen in love with Â鶹´«Ã½. Thank you so much." Professor Chris Day, Vice-Chancellor and President of Â鶹´«Ã½, said: “Davina has been instrumental in highlighting the issues faced by women going through the menopause. "Her campaigning has led to increased awareness of these issues and sparked real change, including here in our Â鶹´«Ã½ community. We are delighted to recognise the hard work and achievements of both a mother and daughter in the same week.” Davina McCall MBE Share: Latest News Volunteers help turn Whitley Bay beach into maths experiment Members of the public joined mathematicians from Â鶹´«Ã½ to create what organisers believe is the largest aperiodic tiling ever attempted on Whitley Bay beach. published on: 15 June 2026 Student leader drives misogyny law change A Â鶹´«Ã½ student leader has helped change the law after creating a petition to make misogyny a hate crime, which gathered over 114,000 signatures, prompting action in Parliament. published on: 12 June 2026 Freemen of Â鶹´«Ã½ see construction of new Castle Leazes The Freemen of Â鶹´«Ã½ and other key stakeholders have become an indelible part of new student accommodation at Â鶹´«Ã½â€™s Castle Leazes. published on: 12 June 2026 Facts and figures
