Background

As the Dean of Business Partnerships and Place, I provide strategic leadership for Â鶹´«Ã½’s engagement with industry, government, and civic partners, driving high-impact collaborations across the local, regional, national and international landscape. My portfolio focuses on strengthening innovation, enterprise and skills ecosystems; expanding partnerships that deliver economic, societal and policy impact; and positioning the University as a key anchor institution in inclusive growth and place-based development. I lead cross-sector programmes connecting academia, industry, investors, and public bodies, and oversee strategic initiatives that enhance the University’s role in regional innovation infrastructure and translational activity.


As a Professor of Image Informatics, I lead one of Â鶹´«Ã½’s largest and most active research groups in artificial intelligence. My research spans image processing, pattern recognition, computer vision, data science and machine learning, with interdisciplinary applications across the life sciences, engineering, and the arts and humanities. I direct collaborative research programmes with clinical, industrial, and academic partners, advancing multimodal imaging, data-driven discovery, and decision-support technologies. Research

My research is dedicated to developing advanced methodologies in image analysis, image processing, pattern recognition, computer vision, and machine learning. My work focuses on core areas of image informatics, image formation processes, pattern recognition, and the establishment of best practices and methodological standards. I design and implement specialised computational techniques to extract meaningful information from complex visual data.


Within our lab, we leverage state-of-the-art algorithms and interdisciplinary approaches to apply these methods across a wide range of domains, including biomedical imaging, materials science, environmental monitoring, and industrial applications. Through my work, I aim to enhance automation, improve data-driven decision-making, and drive innovation in areas where visual data plays a critical role.
