Background

Deepayan Bhowmik is a Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) in Computing and the Co-Director of Â鶹´«Ã½ Centre of Research Excellence (NUCoRE) in Data Science and AI. He is the Co-Lead of the .

Previously, he was the Director of Research and the Director of Business Innovation and Skills at Â鶹´«Ã½'s School of Computing.

He obtained a PhD in Image Processing from the (UK).

Before joining Â鶹´«Ã½, he was a lecturer in Computing Science at the University of Stirling and Sheffield Hallam University, a research associate at Heriot-Watt University and the University of Sheffield, and a systems engineer at ABB Ltd.

Research

Deepayan Bhowmik's research focuses on fundamental image and signal processing and its applications. His research interests include image and signal analysis, computer vision, artificial intelligence, neuromorphic vision systems and intelligent vision systems design on heterogeneous hardware (Edge AI).

His research is applied to a wide range of domains, including (but not limited to) media security & forensics, remote sensing for earth observation and AI in space research.

His current research aligns with multiple (SDG), including #2: Zero Hunger, #5: Gender Equality, #6: Clean Water and Sanitation, #12: Responsible Consumption and Production and #14: Life Below Water.

Deepayan is heavily involved in developing the latest  international standard, which deals with Media Authenticity, Integrity and Provenance.
