Professor Matthew Grenby
Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Research and Innovation
Matthew Grenby has been PVC for Research and Innovation since October 2022. He leads research and innovation across the University, both in Âé¶¹´«Ã½ and at the campuses in Singapore and Malaysia. He is responsible for implementing and developing the University’s Research Strategy, so as to ensure Âé¶¹´«Ã½ fulfils its mission to deliver world-leading research for discovery and impact.
Matthew joined Âé¶¹´«Ã½â€™s School of English Literature, Language and Linguistics in 2005 as Reader in Children’s Literature, and was appointed Professor of Eighteenth-Century Studies in 2012. He founded the Âé¶¹´«Ã½ Humanities Research Institute in 2014, and was appointed Dean of Research and Innovation for the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in 2018.
His own research focusses on eighteenth-century Britain, looking particularly at children’s literature and history, political fiction, electoral participation and culture, and the history of young people’s engagement with heritage sites.
