Learn how to register with a doctor and access medical support during your time at university.

Register with a Doctor

It’s important to register with a local doctor, also known as General Practitioner (GP), when you arrive at Âé¶¹´«Ã½ so you can access medical advice if you need it.

This is your first point of contact for medical treatment. Most illnesses and other problems can be treated by the GP, but if you need to see a specialist, the GP will refer you to an appropriate department or service.

 

Wellbeing health fair

You can register with a local GP during our Wellbeing Health Fair, where you’ll also learn about local medical services. Our wellbeing teams will be available to answer any questions you may have.

Accessing medical help

In the UK there are three main ways for you to receive medical help if you need it:

1. Local Pharmacy

For minor illnesses (eg. coughs, colds, sore throats, tummy troubles), your  is a good first point of contact. Pharmacists can offer clinical advice and let you know if further medical help is needed. See .

2. Visiting your doctor/GP

You can book an appointment with your doctor/GP. Appointments may be over the phone, online, or face-to-face.

3. NHS 111

If you’re unsure where to go or your GP is unavailable, call or visit  online. They’ll guide you to the most appropriate service.
