Postgraduates Who Teach

Postgraduates Who Teach (PGWT)

We are committed to providing our postgraduate students with opportunities to develop transferable skills that will enhance their preparation for a wide range of careers. For many of our postgraduates, teaching experience provides valuable skills.

We are also committed to providing all our students with the best possible educational experience and outcomes. We recognise the important contribution that postgraduates who teach play in providing that experience, and value them as members of the university community.

About the PGWT Policy

The Postgraduates Who Teach (PGWT) Policy supports the University's ongoing efforts to reduce casualised employment by increasing opportunities for planned, contracted teaching activity where appropriate.

The availability of contracted teaching opportunities depends on both the University's teaching needs and the longer-term commitment of postgraduate teachers. Paid teaching opportunities are based on those needs, and appointments of postgraduate teachers to meet those needs may be competitive. The policy does not provide an entitlement for individual postgraduate students to be provided with teaching experience or with a particular contract.

The PGWT Policy and associated FAQs will continue to be reviewed and updated in response to feedback from students and colleagues, as well as changes in University policy and practice. The latest versions of all documents will be published on this page.
