Level 4 Associate Project Manager Apprenticeship
Gain hands-on experience as an apprentice project manager, building a portfolio of real projects and putting your project management skills to the test.
Overview
Delivered over 15 months of practical training, this programme helps organisations deliver successful projects across a wide range of sectors, including government, construction, finance, education and IT.
Apprentices will gain hands on experience supporting project planning, scheduling, progress monitoring and risk management, using recognised project management tools and techniques. Working on real projects with a wide range of stakeholders, they will develop in demand, transferable skills and build a strong foundation for a long term career in project management.
Programme content
Key skills developed in the apprenticeship include:
- support the project team in delivering the lifecycle of a project
- review, analyse, and provide feedback on a business case to ensure the project remains valid
- contribute to and deliver elements of the stakeholder engagement process to commence and progress project delivery and collaborate with stakeholders to communicate the project plan
- develop, update, and continually review, relevant sections of the project scope document
- prepare documents or diagrams which illustrate and deliver the key milestones and stages of a project schedule
- plan the resources required to deliver a project or the activities within the project
- use quality management systems to ensure that project delivery meets legislative and local requirements
- identify and manage risks and opportunities to drive the successful delivery of the project
- contribute to the production and presentation of the key project documents through governance to gain approval
- monitor and report on budget forecast, spend and variance
- collate, analyse, and report on data relating to project performance
- monitor performance trends and process change controls to support the management of project scope
- review the project and report on lessons learned which contribute to continuous improvement for future project delivery
- contribute to the project objectives and key performance indicators which drive and improve performance and sustainability goals
How it's delivered
The delivery of the apprenticeship programme includes:
- versatile online delivery through our learning platform, Canvas
- support from a vocational skills coach each month
- specialist masterclasses to enhance learning
The programme includes a minimum of 348 hours of off the job training, typically delivered at an average of 25–30 hours per month. Employers and apprentices can agree how this time is managed, provided all apprenticeship activity takes place within normal working hours.
Assessment
Throughout the programme, apprentices complete practical, work based activities that allow them to gather real life evidence for their portfolio.
The end-point assessment consists of:
- a professional discussion based on the completed portfolio
- a 500 word scoping document
- a 4,000 word project report and presentation, based on a workplace project completed during the Gateway period
The final end-point assessment involves an interview based on your portfolio, a submission of a 500-word scoping document leading to the completion of a 4000-word project report, and a presentation based on a work project completed during your Gateway period.
Entry requirements
Suitable applicants will be currently employed, in a relevant role, with team and project management exposure and responsibilities.
You must be working in England and fit the apprenticeship funding criteria. Your application must be supported by your employer.
Applicants should have a Grade C or above in GCSE Maths and English (or equivalent qualifications). Applicants under 19 without these qualifications must achieve a Level 2 in Maths and English before their end-point assessment, which can be arranged as part of the programme.
Funding and start date
This course is fully funded through the apprenticeship levy, or 95% funded for SMEs through the government funding scheme. The funding band is set at £7,000.
