Changes for students working on campus

What’s changing and what it means for you

The University is making an important change to the system used to employ and pay students working on campus.

This page explains what’s changing, key dates and provides a student checklist.

We have updated the timelines for moving student work from My Working Hours App to Unitemps.

Please see below for new key dates and deadlines.

What's changing?

The University is moving from the current My Working Hours App to a new, University-run service called Unitemps, based in the Careers Service.

This change will now take effect from Monday 29 June 2026 and applies to students who are currently working on campus or who claim assigned hours through the My Working Hours App.

To make sure you are paid correctly and on time, please note what you need to do and the key dates and deadlines below.

If there are any changes to your assignment, your manager will update you.

Key dates and deadlines

From Monday 29 June

All student work moves to Unitemps.

What this means for you

What do I need to before Monday 15 June 2026?

  • Any work assigned and completed before this date must be submitted by Monday 15 June 2026 for approval on the My Working Hours App. We are working with managers to ensure that claims are approved on time.
  • If any outstanding hours are not submitted by Monday 15 June for approval, you will not be able to claim payment. If you do have any outstanding claims, there may be significant delays and potential tax implications.

We’ll send reminders to your University email closer to this date.

What do I need to do between 15 – 28 June 2026?

  • For any hours assigned during this period, you will be paid at the end of June.
  • You will not need to submit any claims for these hours via the My Working Hours App during this period.

What happens if my role starts or continues from 29 June 2026?

  • Your role will move into the new Unitemps system and you will no longer use the My Working Hours App to manage your assignments.
  • You must register with Unitemps and complete a new Right to Work check before continuing or starting your role.
  • You will receive a P45 at the end of June as part of the transition from the My Working Hours App to Unitemps.

You’ll receive clear instructions before anything changes, including when to register for Unitemps and complete your Right to Work check.

About your P45

You will receive a P45 at the end of June 2026 as part of closing the My Working Hours App system. This is a routine payroll step and supports a smooth move into Unitemps if you continue working.

Please ensure your address details are up to date on , as your P45 will be posted to this address.

Right to Work checks

If your role continues beyond 29 June 2026, or if you start any new assignments from this date, you will be required to complete a new Right to Work check

This applies to all student workers from 29 June 2026, even if you have previously completed a Right to Work check. This is to ensure you are compliant as a student worker and completes the Unitemps registration process.

What you need to do

  • Be prepared by ensuring you have the correct documentation ready:
    • For UK nationals, you will need a physical copy of your passport or birth certificate.
    • For international students, this will involve generating a new employer share code and attending a video verification call.
  • Look out for further emails with instructions on when you need to complete your Right to Work check.

What is Unitemps?

Unitemps will be our very own on-campus recruitment agency, providing a wide range of opportunities for Â鶹´«Ã½ students to access paid work on campus. The Unitemps team, based within the Careers Service, will support you as a student worker.
