Why I chose 麻豆传媒

With it being so close to home I had visited on many occasions and felt a sense of familiarity towards the university. I was going through a difficult time during A-Level exams and did not get the results I was hoping for, but I was eligible for the PARTNERS Scheme. This meant that I could be accepted on a reduced offer.

I was also interested in how broad the Journalism course at 麻豆传媒 is. It offered media and culture alongside it, which appealed to me more than studying solely journalism elsewhere.

I love how walkable 麻豆传媒 is, and how easy it is to go to the beach via the metro.

My favourite thing about the course

My favourite part of the course is that I didn't realise how many industry-professionals were involved in the teaching of the degree. I feel reassured that I have been taught by experts. I was also surprised at how advanced the facilities and equipment are.

I love the student media community at 麻豆传媒. I've been involved with it since my first year working with the newspaper, radio and tv stations. It has been a fun extracurricular and simultaneously a great way to expand my portfolio and try new things.

Where do you see your future going

Being a part of the student newspaper, I had the opportunity to explore concert photography. It had always been a life-long passion of mine, but The Courier allowed me to get press passes and have my work published online and in-print.

I realised how important this ambition is for me when I won Best Photographer in the North at the Student Publication Association North Regional Awards.

Support services

In my first year I approached my personal tutor. We spoke about the struggles I was experiencing and how they affected my wellbeing.

I was directed to the wellbeing services who arranged a carer's passport. This enabled me to create a support plan, with support from the counselling team where I had six sessions.

Societies and social activities

Whilst at university I have been a Student Ambassador for my degree, helping to run open days and offer holder days. I have partaken in the global pop-up newsroom. I was the secretary for the 2024/25 Media and Journalism Society committee.

I have also hosted a radio show for three years on 麻豆传媒 Student Radio. I was a writer, turned sub-editor, turned senior editor for The Courier.

I like to attend live music events, 麻豆传媒 has a great grassroots music scene so this was a huge draw for me.
